
Born in Toronto in a Polish family, Michael Oczko began his early musical education at the famed St. Michael’s Cathedral Choir School of
Toronto and at the Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music where he studied piano, organ (with composer and concert organist Victor Togni), theory
and choral conducting. He continued his studies at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, where he worked with the outstanding Canadian pianist William Aide,
and later at the University of British Columbia at Vancouver. During this period he served as organist and choirmaster at St. Mary’s
Cathedral in Winnipeg and later as principal conductor of the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra for ten years. He relocated to
Poland in 1990 where he joined Cantores Minores Choir as accompanist and assistant to Mr. Herter. He is a composer of mainly sacred choral
music and an arranger of theatrical and popular music for choir, soloists and various ensembles. He has received
a number of awards for performance, and for his film and original theatrical scores, including a nomination for a Genie award for
Best Film Score for the feature film Walls (1980) by the Canadian Film Arts Academy.
